Kids with ADHD have brains that work differently from other children. The ADHD brain can be creative, curious and capable of producing big, beautiful ideas. However, sometimes those brains can be scattered, disorganized and impulsive. It’s the latter that can drive parents up the wall!

It’s important to have access to resources that can help you understand your child and parent them. Below is a list of our favorite resources for parents of kids with ADHD.

  1. Chadd.org is the be-all-end-all for evidence-based information and research on ADHD. It is an aggregate for all essentials including symptoms, treatment, support, advocacy, and providers.

  2. Smart but Scattered by Peg Dawson, EdD and Richard Guare, PhD is a great resource for parents looking for strategies to use at home to support their child. This book helps parents understand their child’s brain while providing tools for boosting executive functioning skills and effective problem solving.

  3. Taking Charge of ADHD by Russell A. Barkley, PhD is a complete guide for parents and includes an 8-step behavioral management program for kids ages 6-18. The author, Dr. Barkley, PhD, is an expert and pioneer in the field of ADHD and executive dysfunction.
